    Awareness Week Activities
We wanted to share just a few of the many activities happening around the globe!

Even One Person Can Make a Splash!
Susan Hughes, Irlen Director in Chico, California, wrote to tell everyone what she has planned for Irlen Awareness week:

    Canada Proclaims Irlen Awareness Week
The The Mayor’s office for the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta, has declared an official Irlen Awareness Week. The signing of the proclamation will take place October 17 at 2:30 pm. Nola Stigings, Irlen Diagnostician, will be there at the Mayor’s office for the signing.
The proclamation signing for Irlen Awareness Week in Red Deer, Alberta, by Mayor Tara Veer, is scheduled for October 16 at 10 am. Nola Stigings and several Irlen screeners and clients are going to be present at the signing. We look forward to seeing the pictures. This is a wonderful idea, and hopefully next year more cities will join in.

    Free Screenings
Joan Craig, Irlen Screener in Oregon, reports that the Joan Craig Center in Jefferson is giving three free screenings, along with a free dyslexic test. Our banner says ‘one color does not fit all’ and has a multi-colored shoe on it. Our Jefferson librarian will be getting a free test. My motto is “If you can’t see the words, how can you read the words.”

As coding takes off in K-12 education, there is growing support for introducing such lessons in early grades, with researchers saying that coding allows students to develop skills that will help them succeed in science, technology, engineering, and math. Coding also has been shown to help develop other skills when introduced earlier, such as communication, self-expression, and problem-solving.

    Quote of the Day
"Tyler is in 5th grade, and this is how he describes how he felt when he wore the correct Irlen Spectral Filter for the first time: “You’re a medieval knight and you just slayed the biggest dragon in the land. As a reward, the King of Scotland gives you the key to the country and you can get anything you want for free. You put the key in the special case that you’ve been waiting for your whole life, and you feel like you conquered the world.”
